It’s the official start of Le Creuset Mini-Cocotte Month recipe contest at Food for the Ages…Do you remember your mother’s Le Creuset? That cherry red dutch oven that you could barely pick up? Le Creuset means “the cauldron.” No kidding. Though I admired their utility, I never owned a Le Creuset pot or pan. But when I saw a miniaturized Le Creuset cocotte last week, in Silverthorne, then again, this week while browsing around at Cheese Importers, in Longmont, Colorado, it was love at first and second sight! Cute as buttons and with a darling name to boot, I picked up four Mini Cocottes and the Le Creuset cookbook, “Mini Cocotte Cooking.”
Mini-Cocotte Recipe Contest
Now I’m on a mission to discover new soups, dinners, desserts and little casseroles, and hereby declare this Food for the Ages’ La Creuset Mini-Cocotte Month! In honor of this great new take on a traditional French cooking style–en cocotte–I want us to explore new recipes together with a contest. And they don’t have to be French!
From June 15 to July 15, enter your recipe in the form below this post and remember to subscribe to this blog so that you get updates. You don’t need to go out and buy the Mini Cocottes. Simply prepare a recipe that would work divided between four, 8-ounce dutch ovens. We’ll pick the best recipes and include the winners in my new e-cookbook, “The Mini-Cocotte Tiny Kitchen Cookbook.” Anyone submitting a recipe will get a free copy. The recipe you submit should only be enough to fill four, 8-ounce mini cocottes.
Mini Cocottes Epitomize our Lifestyle
Besides just being smaller and easier to handle, Mini Cocottes epitomize our healthy, outdoor lifestyle and ethic of tiny kitchen cooking:
- Gourmet food – We love to cook good food and the high quality and durability of the Le Creuset ceramic and enamel oven-to-table cookware enables you to cook a wide variety of gourmet soups, casseroles, desserts, and other delights safely with beautiful results.
- Easy to handle and to store – Lightweight, these minis come in durable boxes that stack and make tiny-living storage a snap.
- No seconds or leftovers – Few if any leftovers and no fattening second helpings that are inevitable with larger casseroles. We’re not cooking for a large family anymore — it’s just the two of us and we want to eat deliciously, but not too much! And although we cook more frequently, which we love to do anyway, we add more variety to our diet by reducing leftovers.
- Portion control: An 8-ounce dish is a great controller for appetites, like my husband John’s, who is always going to go back for more. The less food on the counter top, the less the temptation. One of our mottos is, never eat too much at one sitting! The tendency to overeat is always there when we prepare large-quantity recipes. If we’re limited to a one-cup, Mini-Cocotte portion, we are better able to control our calorie intake.
- Stylish dishware – These are just plain cute! And the rich enamel and ceramic finishes in a broad palette will please every taste.
- Easy to clean – Cooked-on food comes off easily when washing the Mini Cocotte.
