I am originally from Michigan where everything seems to grow without tremendous effort. Since moving back to Colorado in 2008, I struggle with the Colorado gardening conditions. We have western soil conditions (alkali soil at our house), high sun intensity (6 hours of sun here is equal to a full day’s sun in Michigan), high altitude (we live 7,000 feet above sea level), water shortages and rapidly changing weather and temperatures. To make my high-altitude kitchen garden future more successful, I enrolled in the CSU Extension office’s Master Gardener or Certificate Program. And I highly recommend it for you, if you have encountered any Colorado gardening challenges at home.
The upcoming CMG classes will be held locally starting in late January 2020 at our new Lone Cone Public Library in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I will be there volunteering and absorbing knowledge some Tuesday evenings.
